The classic version of metropa shows an imaginary network that will never exist exactly like this. Critics say, it's utopia. And they're right.
But we wanted to prove that the design of metropa can be applied to real networks as well. The European night train network is perfect for this purpose, because it's much smaller than the daily network and thus fits on a poster.
And when we finished it, we were quite surprised that though we used same colours and desing rules, it looks so different to the original metropa map: much more organic, erratic, and – human.
